About Course

This qualification is designed to support a role in the workplace. It is designed to provide learners who either have, or wish to have, a career in the taxi and private hire sector with key knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the industry. The units included in the qualification cover areas such as health and safety, customer service, vehicle maintenance, the regulatory framework, routes and fares, and transporting children, young people and individuals who require assistance.
This qualification maps to the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for the passenger transport industry.

Course Content

Unit 1: Health and safety in the taxi and private hire work environment
This unit is assessed by a 25 question multiple-choice examination, the duration of which is 40 minutes. To pass this unit, learners must achieve a score of at least 17 out of 25.

Unit 2: Road safety when driving passengers in a taxi or private hire vehicle
This unit is assessed by a 25 question multiple-choice examination, the duration of which is 40 minutes. To pass this unit, learners must achieve a score of at least 17 out of 25.

Unit 3: Professional customer service in the taxi and private hire industry
This unit is assessed by a 22 question multiple-choice examination, the duration of which is 35 minutes. To pass this unit, learners must achieve a score of at least 15 out of 22.

Unit 4: Taxi and private hire vehicle maintenance and safety inspections
This unit is assessed by a 25 question multiple-choice examination, the duration of which is 40 minutes. To pass this unit, learners must achieve a score of at least 17 out of 25.

Unit 5: The regulatory framework of the taxi and private hire industry
This unit is assessed by a 45 question multiple-choice examination, the duration of which is 70 minutes. To pass this unit, learners must achieve a score of at least 30 out of 45.

Unit 6: Taxi and private hire services for passengers who require assistance
Learning outcomes 1-4 of this unit are assessed by a 30 question multiple-choice examination, the duration of which is 45 minutes. To pass this examination, learners must achieve a score of at least 20 out of 30. Learning outcomes 5 and 6 are assessed through assessor observation of learner performance, which is externally moderated by Highfield. Learners must pass both elements of the assessment to achieve an overall pass grade for the unit.

Unit 7: Routes and fares in the taxi and private hire vehicle industries
This unit is assessed by a 20 question multiple-choice examination, the duration of which is 30 minutes. To pass this unit, learners must achieve a score of at least 13 out of 20.

Unit 8: Transporting of parcels, luggage and other items in the taxi and private hire industries
